Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right -Oprah

New year....new resolutions?
Last year at this time, I had a slew of things I was going to change. I think I referenced it as a whole life overhaul. Although some of those changes carried through the year, many of them did not. As we now embark on the second decade of this century, I feel wiser, and less apt to throw out a plethora of adaptations I "must" make in 2011.

My ultimate goal this year, is to make it a year for me. Not a year to confine to what society has predetermined as necessary but rather what makes me me. I have no desire to look just like the girl next door or to live in house that is the same as the one beside it, and so on. I want to be unique and undefined. As a model to my children, I want them express who they are without fear of rejection, without trying to please everyone around them.....

Don't misread this as I want them and myself to throw all caution to the wind. That's not it. I just want us to not get so caught up in how we are viewed, but focus more on living in the moment....the pureness, the happiness, the contentment that is associated with living without so many expectations.

In addition, I also want to focus on my goals. It's due time. This isn't to be confused with new year's resolutions which fizzle out within weeks (or days) of making. But as I embark on this semester as a full time student, I know the struggles that lie ahead balancing my life with my studies. Yet this excites me...a)I like a challenge and b) it means we are closer to living that life I so desire. As I said, my goal is to make this a year for me (and for clarification, when I say me...it's a 3 person package reference).

I am paving my own road along the way and am entering this period of my life with confidence and a developing sense of optimism. I hope for each of you that you aren't just made out of ticky tacky and can "get out of the box" to make this a year to live every day to the fullest... a year full of peace, love, and happiness!! BRING ON 2011~

Excerpt from the song Little Boxes
"And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same."
